Poker is a card game in which players place bets on the strength of their cards. The player with the best hand wins the pot. Bets are made with either chips or cash. Stronger players don’t have any sympathy for weaker players, and they’ll quickly shove you around the table.
The highest-ranking hand is a royal flush. This includes a 10, Jack, Queen, and King of the same suit. The second-highest hand is four of a kind, which consists of 4 cards of the same rank and three unrelated side cards. Other common hands include two pair (two matching cards of one rank and 3 unmatched cards) and a straight.
It’s important to mix up your play style so that your opponent doesn’t know what you have. If they always know what you have, your bluffs won’t work and you’ll never get paid off when you do have the nuts. Mixing up your style also makes it harder for your opponent to call your bluffs.
